BELLS / CHIMES
Prelude Chimes
Prelude Chimes is our youngest group of ringers. They currently practice from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings, and we welcome children from 1st grade and older. In this group, the children play choirchimes and begin learning the fundamentals of reading music, ringing techniques, and playing music in a group. The Prelude Chimes participates in the worship service several times a year, including the 5:00 PM Christmas Eve service. We often accompany other groups, such as the Junior Choir. We also participate in special events such as the Patriotic Concert and Christmas Bazaar concert. We welcome new participants at any time so please encourage your children to give it a try!
Allegro Ringers
The Allegro Ringers includes children from 4th or 5th grade on up, and practices after the children's story during the 10:45 service on Sunday mornings. We have a wide range of abilities in this group, so we learn everything from note values to dynamics and more advanced handbell techniques. The Allegro Ringers participates in the worship service several times a year, including the 5:00 PM Christmas Eve service. We also participate in special events such as the Patriotic Concert and Christmas Bazaar concert. We often participate in the Young Ringers Workshop held at a local church where our group has the opportunity to ring with children from other churches in a Handbell Festival type of setting.
Vivace Ringers
The Vivace Ringers includes youth in 7th or 8th through 12th grades. Our practice times vary depending on the schedules of the ringers. The size of this choir also varies depending on the pieces we are working on. This choir includes more experienced ringers and musicians, so they are able to play much more difficult and challenging music. They also learn more difficult techniques such as Shelley ringing and 4-in-hand ringing.
Resounding Ringers
The Resounding Ringers is our most experienced group of handbell ringers. We alternate between Monday and Tuesday evenings for our rehearsals. Whichever day we choose, we practice from 7 to 8:30 p.m. We welcome anyone who might be willing to substitute for practices and/or performances when our ringers are sick or out of town. This is a perfect way for new ringers to become familiar with the bells and music. The Resounding Ringers participates in the worship service several times a year. We also participate in special events such as the Patriotic Concert and Christmas Bazaar concert. We play concerts at local senior living communities. We also participate in local Handbell Festivals every couple of years to stretch our repertoire and challenge our ringing abilities!
Wentz's Alumni Handbell Choir
Our last group of ringers is our "Wentz's Alumni Handbell Choir". We have a tradition at Wentz's for the 5:00 service on Christmas Eve. For several years, we have invited all ringers past and present to ring the processional and O Come, All Ye Faithful at the start of the 5:00 service. Rehearsal is always at 4:15. There is just enough time to quickly get bell assignments, memorize the processional and do a run-through in Fellowship Hall. It's a lot of fun to see past ringers, and to have everyone young and old together on such a special night to ring in the season!
Wentz's Journey Band
Wentz's started the Journey service in September, 2005. At that time we formed a band consisting of piano, bass guitar, drums, vocalists, and various other instruments. We've had guitar, saxophone, flute, recorder, even banjo! We play a wide variety of music ranging from traditional to contemporary, and everything in between. We welcome new arrangements, instruments and ideas, and are always willing to try something different. We typically practice from 6:30 to 7:30 on Thursday evenings. We warm up at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings, and play for the Journey Service at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings. We also participate occasionally in the 10:45 a.m. worship service, and for special events such as the Patriotic Concert and Wentz Fest in June.
