In the past few weeks, I have experienced moments where I have felt completely powerless. I’m sure you can relate to this feeling when you witness events unfolding that are beyond your control. For me, it’s the heartbreaking images of the aftermath from Hurricane Helene and the destruction it has caused on the East Coast. Lives have been lost and property destroyed, leaving behind unimaginable devastation. It’s alarming to see how storms are becoming more frequent and intense as the years go by, yet we cannot seem to find a solution to this problem because we can’t agree there is a real problem.
However, it’s not just natural disasters that make us feel powerless. Human behavior is also failing on a global scale. The news of rising tensions in the Middle East and the possibility of a regional war is deeply concerning. While we understand that geopolitics is complex and intricate, innocent lives are being affected at the end of the day. In times like these, we need a tangible force, and that’s where God comes in. We need God to comfort us, to heal those who have been affected, to restore what has been lost, and, most importantly, to be a source of peace in this chaotic world.
In such moments, it’s crucial for us to center our focus on the well-being and safety of innocent individuals and to work towards promoting and ensuring peace. We must not let ourselves be consumed by feelings of powerlessness; instead, we engage our faith. In fact, we are not powerless! We each have been called to pray for our world and its leaders. I know for me; I believe with my whole heart the scripture that tells God will take the bad and good to make it work for our good (Romans 8:28). Let us trust that God is working through us in this world towards bringing order and harmony. It’s important we continue to remind ourselves we are not powerless. We are strong and can do all things through the power of Christ that strengthens us! (Philippians 4:13)
Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you-2nd Corinthians 13:11
