Rev’s Mid-Week Thought

All through human history, countless instances are recorded where hate and Darkness have consumed individuals and communities, leading to unspeakable acts of violence and destruction. In these moments, succumbing to the Darkness and hate by “othering” and “demagoguing” is easy, allowing them to take over our hearts and minds. But as Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Darkness cannot drive out Darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” These words are a powerful reminder that the only way to combat hate and Darkness is with love and light.

Love knows no boundaries and has the power to overcome even the deepest and darkest of hatred. It is an undeterred force that unites us rather than divides us. We have seen time and time again the incredible resilience and strength of individuals and communities that come together in the face of hate and Darkness, showing love and compassion towards one another. Love is not weak but a courageous and powerful force that can conquer even the most seemingly impossible situations.

Together, in this moment and in the moments to come, we can create a ripple effect of love and light, spreading it to those who need it most. The more we choose to respond to hate with love, the more we will see Darkness fade away. In this moment of division and tension, let us be the light and love our world desperately needs.

Above all, maintain constant love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins. 1st Peter 4:8
