Rev’s Mid-Week Thought

In today’s fast-paced and often tumultuous world, it can be easy to feel small and insignificant. However, the imagery of the mustard seed reminds us that even the most minor and seemingly insignificant actions or words can have a profound impact. Just as a mustard seed starts off as a tiny and unassuming seed but grows into a large and sturdy tree, our actions, no matter how small, have the power to blossom and create positive change in our lives and the lives of others.

Furthermore, the emphasis on the mustard seed as a symbol of faith speaks to the importance of having belief and trust in something greater than ourselves. This can manifest in various ways, whether faith in God, humanity, or us. Faith serves as a guiding force that allows us to persevere through challenges and believe in the potential for growth and transformation. As mustard seeds have the potential to grow into large and fruitful trees, our faith has the potential to inspire and empower us to achieve great things in our lives, family, community, and indeed the world.

This notion reminds us that we are all interconnected and have the capacity to influence and inspire one another. We may start small, but with faith and perseverance, we can grow, nurture, and make a difference in the world. Let us continue embracing our role as mustard seeds and use our lives as vehicles for spreading faith, hope, and love.

For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20
