Rev’s Mid-Week Thought

Grace and Peace to each of you,

Over the past few months, I have heard the spirit in my heart say, “Prepare the people of Wentz’s for what’s next.” Now that sounds fine on the surface until you consider the holy spirit has not told me everything that we are to prepare for in this next season at Wentz’s. You can see how it might be challenging to prepare for something you aren’t sure about. I can imagine what Abraham felt when God said I’ll make you a great nation without the entire plan for how and when. God instructed him to leave his family and start walking, and he would fill him in on the way. Family, this is a faith walk. We will have to keep listening for the voice of God in our hearts, fully believing God has it all under control. This applies to our personal lives too. It’s hard to be patient when we are eager for a resolution to a situation weighing heavily on our hearts.

The truth is even if we have surrendered our desires and concerns in prayer, we still may find it difficult to stop ruminating and thinking of ways to hurry things along. Letting go and letting God may feel like giving up, but I am learning it is one of the most powerful things we can do. It’s our way of acknowledging something powerful beyond our human efforts, and that power lives in us.

As we journey into this next season as a faith community and in our personal lives, let’s intentionally yield our efforts and ruminations to the holy spirit. As the sign-out front says, “Keep calm and carry on”, and when we do, we open ourselves to solutions and opportunities we could not have conceived of with our minds alone. Enjoy this journey as we see and experience the plan of God unfolding before us. Let us wait patiently and expectantly for the perfect outcome in its time.

But as it is written, “what no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him.”—1st Corinthians 2:9
