Rev’s Mid-Week Thought

Wednesday Blessings Beloveds,

Earlier, I was contemplating the remainder of the week, going through my to-do list. While sifting through the details of the items in my purview that require my attention, somewhere along the way, my heart started humming, “Amazing Grace.” The power of God moved and shifted; suddenly, what seemed daunting faded into the background as insignificant. That moment has stuck with me the past couple of days, and I have been reflecting on “I was blind, but now I see” There are times we need the divine to give us clarity of spirit and mind because contrary winds will blow to hinder our progress and move us off course. Thank God for clarifying moments.

The Book of Acts records one such moment; Saul of Tarsus —a persecutor of early Christians—was traveling on the road to Damascus when a light from heaven flashed around him, blinding him. The voice of Jesus called out to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” After three days, his sight was restored, God changed his name to Paul, who would later become an apostle, and he, with the clarity of spiritual vision, began to share Jesus’ teachings through his travel and writings.

I see myself in this story. Do you see yourself too? Sometimes we become so immersed in dispiriting practices and behaviors that we become blind to the blessings and beauty in front of us. When we engage the world with love instead of the fear of people and what they think, feel, say, or do, we more easily behold the Christ within us and all others.

He laid his hands on Saul and said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on your way here, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”—Acts 9:17
